The bad thing about the Official Social Security List is that they don’t combine spellings of popular name. Spelling counts.  There are sometimes big changes when you add up spellings.  These are all the names in The Top 1000.  Rankings could change if you added up all the names on the list.

No longer in The Top 100 for BOYS are Sawyer, Roman, and Brandon.

New to the Top 100 for BOYS are Kayden, Eric, Miles, Kason, Camden, Damian, and Elliot.

DID YOUR FAVORITES GO UP OR DOWN WHEN YOU COMBINE SPELLING?

*Note:  There could be slight or different pronunciations to some names, but I do think this is more accurate then the Official List.

Today is the day!  The Day that all of us Name Nerds Rejoice!  The stats are out.  Whoo-hoo.  Every year in May, the Social Security Administration releases the Top Baby Names for the Year.  So drumroll please.

TOP BOY NAMES OF 2016

  1. Noah
  2. Liam

No major surprises here. Emma and Noah are still #1.   We say goodbye to last year’s #8 Alexander, and say hello to the only newcomer in the Top Ten,  Elijah.

Things get a bit more interesting when we combine spelling of all the names in the Top 1000.

Bye Noah!  Jackson and his cohorts (Jaxon, Jaxson, and Jaxen) kick Noah to number 3.  Aiden and Lucas are also bumped up to the top 10 and we lose Michael, Elijah, and Ethan.  They don’t go too far.  They are still in the Top 15.

The girl’s also get a new top name (Hi, Sophia) and #1 Emma gets bumped down to #3.  We also say hello to Adeline, Amelia, and Riley and Abigail, Emily, and Harper get kicked out of the Top 10.

Here’s the New List and the number in parenthesis is the number they rank on the Official Chart.

THE BOYS

  1. Jackson (#17)
  2. Aiden (#16)

  6. Adeline (#63)
  7. Mia (#6)
  8. Amelia (#11)
  9. Charlotte (#7)
  10. Riley (#22)

What do you think?  Are you surprised that (officially) Emma and Noah are still number #1?   What do you think about Jackson and Sophia?  Which pair do you like better?

I’ll be doing the Top 100 soon.

*EDIT: I forgot to add Adeline to the Top 10 on my earlier post.
